We are searching for the next American Opera Idol – Is it you?
Competition open to Opera Singers from age 14 to 54!

Cash Prizes:
American Opera Idol – $750
Artistic Director’s Award – $250

Entrants should send:
1) A CD or DVD with 2 or more opera arias,
2) C.V. or narrative resume, including photo, Email address and cellular phone number, and
3) Entrance Fee of $15.00 ( payable to Connecticut Concert Opera) to:

Deadline for receipt of applications – June 25, 2012. Finalists will be chosen and notified not later than June 30th for the Live Competition in West Hartford, CT on July 19, 2012 at the Pond House in Elizabeth Park. Although the second performance of FAUST was cancelled because of the October snow storm, the Friday, October 28th production was lauded by the press, as you can see here:

WEST HARTFORD — Connecticut Concert Opera presented Rossini's infamous comic opera "The Barber of Seville" in a semi-staged production in a packed Hoffman Auditorium at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford.

The production was a great success. The cast was one of great abilities but what marked the evening was a highly developed sense of musical ensemble, elaborate interaction among characters, and highly effective comedic timings. More >>

To paraphrase the classic Tina Turner mega-hit – Marilyn Horne is, and was “simply the best, better than anyone” as far as mezzos in the world of opera are concerned.  An American superstar, she was to every alto worldwide what Callas was to sopranos and Pavarotti to tenors.  Though she began her long career in soprano roles, and was perhaps the most famous Carmen during the  1970s, the singer specialized in the far more difficult and less popular florid operas of Rossini, Handel and Bellini, and often appeared alongside of the great, above mentioned tenor throughout his glorious career. Connecticut Concert Opera, founded in 1991, has as its mission the presentation of full length operas in a concert format, in their original language, sung by singers from Connecticut and surrounding states. Its first production was in January 1992, the Rossini opera L’Italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers). Since that time it has produced one or more full length operas each season together with special concerts and gala events. More >>

Built in 2001, Hoffman Auditorium is now established as one of the most sought after performance venues in the region for its intimate atmosphere and comfortable seating. Part of the Carol Autorino Arts Center at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Hoffman Auditorium has is the home of performances by Connecticut Theatre Festival, Hartford Conservatory, and the Hartford Symphony daytime concert series, among many others.
