Why less is more at Connecticut Concert Opera

Just a day before the Connecticut Concert Opera performed a double-bill at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford on Saturday, Music Director Doris Lang Kosloff took time out from last-minute preparations to chat with me about it. Then, in taut performances by first-rate young singers and seasoned orchestral players, the troupe proved its ability to provide opera of uncompromising quality on a relative shoestring budget. Connecticut Concert Opera, founded in 1991, has as its mission the presentation of full length operas in a concert format, in their original language, sung by singers from Connecticut and surrounding states. Its first production was in January 1992, the Rossini opera L’Italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers). Since that time it has produced one or more full length operas each season together with special concerts and gala events. More >>

Built in 2001, Hoffman Auditorium is now established as one of the most sought after performance venues in the region for its intimate atmosphere and comfortable seating. Part of the Carol Autorino Arts Center at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Hoffman Auditorium has is the home of performances by Connecticut Theatre Festival, Hartford Conservatory, and the Hartford Symphony daytime concert series, among many others.
